Driver’s licenses of athletes and celebrities have been a hot collectible for years.
After 17 bids at Heritage Auctions, a certain collector paid $35,000 for Michael Jackson’s driver’s license. Heritage Auctions noted that it was in good condition, although it had creases in some areas— the most visible being on the verso.
The document from the mid-’80s was obtained from the state of California by Michael Jackson. The auction house further clarified that it was not particularly a signed item since the signature on it is a condensed copy of a live one.
The license measures 3 ½ inches by 2 ¼ inches and includes a passport photo with a straight face at the camera. The sale of this item follows the sale of Jackson’s black-and-white leather jacket from a 1984 Pepsi commercial, which auctioneers Propstore sold for $306,000 last November.
