The Gary Southshore Railcats, an independent baseball club in the American Association, will pay tribute to Michael Jackson by wearing a specially themed jersey on Saturday, June 21.
Jackson , one of the most famous pop musicians of all-time, was born in Gary, Indiana in 1958 and died five years ago.
The Railcat uniform is patterned after Jackson’s famous red and silver jacket worn in the music short film for “Beat It” in 1982. It will include the teams’ alternate “G” logo on the chest of the jacket and also have a patch for “End Polio Now” on the left sleeve.
Each player’s number and shoulder will have a faux “shimmery” pattern. Players are not expected to wear silver, shiny baseball gloves, although that would be the only acceptable time to do so in a baseball game.
Michael Jackson has been honoured by the Railcats in the past before a game in 2012 when his children threw out the first ceremonial pitch.
The worn jerseys will be auctioned off during the game.
