‘Mini Michael Jackson’ overcomes stumble, wins grand finals!

MANILA – It was a scary moment that left “It’s Showtime” audience members in tears.

On Saturday’s “MiniMe” grand finals, Nhikzy Vheench Calma was halfway through his performance, showing off his dance moves inspired by the late King of Pop Michael Jackson.

The five-year-old appeared confident and his skills on the dance floor certainly didn’t go unnoticed by the crowd.

But his first stumble came when he attempted the move dubbed as the “anti-gravity lean.” Calma was on top of a moving platform, which was around 3 feet from the floor, when it happened.

Calma, trying to recover from the slight error,  immediately jumped to his feet. However, in doing so, caused the platform to flip back.

It almost tossed his head down to the floor, if not for the strap that kept his feet glued to the platform. A backup dancer sprung to grab Calma, but was surprised when the kid opted to continue his routine.

“May mga ibang bata, ‘pag may nangyaring ganoon, wala na iiyak na. Ihihinto na. Pero siya ipinakita niya na kaya ko ‘to!” host Vhong Navarro said.

Calma ended the performance with a slew of impromptu moves, which drew strong cheers from the crowd.

“Alam mo ba ‘yung ginawa mo, ‘yung nahulog ka, bumalik ka, nag-adlib ka, alam mo ba kahit na mga edad namin, hindi namin alam kung paano gagawin ‘yun. Kasi matataranta na kami. Ikaw sa edad mong ‘yan, hangang-hanga ako sa iyo. Ang tapang mo, ang husay mo,” said co-host Billy Crawford.

The Manila-born kid went on to become the first ever grand winner of “MiniMe,” taking home P300,000.

“Bilib na bilib ako sa iyo lalong-lalo na nung nagkaroon ng technical, muntikan ka na mahulog [pero] itinuloy mo pa rin ‘yung routine ng sayaw mo,” said director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz, one of the judges for the grand finals.

Runner-up

Finishing first runner-up in the first edition of “MiniMe” grand finals was John Steven De Guzman better known as “Mini Vhong,” who took home P200,000.

Xymon Ezekiel “Mini Bamboo” Pineda was named 2nd runner-up, winning P100,000. Other awards such as Most Charming, which Pineda also won, were handed out.

Grand winner Calma was also named Most Friendly, while Margarette Mitch Naco and Telesa Marie De Torres won Most Behaved and Best in Talent, respectively. Eight-year-old Isaac Biel Reodica won Best in Art.
