Halloween has become such a special moment for all Michael Jackson fans but mostly due to the iconic song and video “Thriller”.
“Thriller” has changed the game for the music industry in so many levels. The video or “short film” was the first of its kind! telling a story through a music video was never done before. Not to mention the amount of efforts put into the realization of the video was huge back then and still today, one of the most viewed music video of all time!
The story, the make-up, the costumes, the dance, the choreography, the song, everything was unseen before and to the best quality that was ever been possible at that time.
“Thriller” has became a cult video engraved in our culture and social life. The video and song are now an iconic moment of history.
We all know that the Estate of Michael Jackson has restored the video and made it 3D (which by the way, is absolutely amazing) but yet to be seen for the masses!
So it is no surprise that even today, people will recreate the costume, the video, the make-up, the dance throughout the Halloween period.
Halloween parties are on the raise and you will not be escaping the song if you are going to one!
Downloads and streamings of the song and video are on the raise during that period of time which is a true testimony of not only the song legacy but also to Michael Jackson’s.
Today, fans and ghouls like will be celebrating Halloween, dressed as Michael Jackson in the “Thriller” video (Zombie or Werewolf). People around the world are reproducing the famous dance moves in shops, streets or even on a dance floor! From the US to Zimbabwe, videos on youtube and social media are increasing and showing of their make-ups and moves skills!
It is weird to us that the Estate has not capitalized more on this. Frankly, there is a massive market and demand for Halloween (and still growing) and while the Estate has created official Michael Jackson costumes (the latest 2019 edition being the werewolf costume), why not to also release a full official range of make-up kits, Thrillerween decorations like tomb stones or pack of spiderweb (my imagination will go on on this so I might leave that there). The future is bright but it will be great to get this right before it’s midnight!
And now for the hardcore fans, we are all hoping for “Ghosts” to become as iconic as “Thriller”. If only it was as hugely available as “Thriller” – Maybe one day the Estate of Michael Jackson will bring us a very special DVD/Blu-ray and get this short film available in full on youtube or vimeo!

I know we need to have Thriller pushed because it is Michael’s biggest selling and most famous song/album and the short film was ground breaking in so many ways… and the idea of costumes to help perpetuate its popularity with the masses is excellent. HOWEVER, in terms of official projects I’m a little tired of the Estate being stuck in something of a groove with Thriller… especially when Ghosts is languishing on the shelf. Ghosts is my absolute favourtie and the film that confirmed me as an MJ fan. I would so like to see it given the attention it deserves. Happy Halloween, everyone.
