The King of Pop at Würzburg, the town remembers

August 21, 1988. Michael Jackson is in Würzburg, Germany to perform for his BAD World Tour.

In an article for Main Post, Gunther Schunk via journalist Ernst Lauterbach recalls the event which got the whole town on its toes! 43,000 fans purchased tickets but many couldn’t afford it so those unlucky fans sat in the streets nearby or on the other side of the river in the vineyards which over viewed the stage.

This was one not a sold out concert compared to other German cities which got over 70,000 visitors in Cologne or Munich.

Ernst set up the background during the King of Pop visit: over 300 police officers and several security agents were dispatch in the city, over 200 Red Cross first-aiders were by the crowd performed over 600 medical care during the concert.

Gunther was 21 back then said he was nt able to purchase a ticket so he sat with many more others near the fence to be able to hear without seeing Michael. “It was just a big event where people were curious and wanted to see what was going on”

It was an event that the town still remember today and some of the town journalists and photographers shared their memories too recalling that special trams were dispatch to bring fans in and out of the venue.
