Gary, Indiana officially indicate the house where it all started for the Jackson family.
On May 13, Mayor Jerome, Tito and Marlon unveiled a new signage that says “Home of the World-Famous Jackson 5, 2300 Jackson Street”. The State will be installing signs on interstate 80/94 and on Broadway to lead tourists to the home.
Mayor Jerome Prince stated “It’s absolutely a proud moment for the City of Gary” He also asked a 23 second silence in memory of the Jackson family who have passed like Michael and Joe.
Tito Jackson emotionally thanks the people of Gary “Without you guys, the Jackson family would not be where it is today,” he said.
State Senator Eddie Melton called the placement of the signage a move toward economic development.
Councilwoman Linda Barnes-Caldwell said the Jackson home has always been an unofficial landmark in the 5th District and she is hopeful the tourism it draws along with the grand opening of the Hard Rock Casino will help fuel development in her district.
“I need developers to come to this area. We need people who can take a look and reimagine Gary,” she said.
Lieutenant Governor of Indiana Suzanne Crouch also added: “What this home represents is the American Dream”.

So, we’re not going to get Michael’s plaque reinstated (without the E Casanova photo, of course)? I think that would be a mistake, personally.
