Michael Jackson Book Club Review: “Ever After”

Ever After
Rating: 5/5

“Ever After” by Brenda Jenkyns

There are countless books written about Michael Jackson; books about his life, his music, his humanitarianism, his style and so much more. I have read and enjoyed many of them, so I know they are generally written with the adult audience in mind, but now that I am a Grandmother I began to think, are there any books written for children? I wanted a book to introduce my five-year-old granddaughter to Michael Jackson because he not only continues to inspire me, but so many others in the world today. I felt it was important to find a book that could show his story in a way she could truly understand.

Brenda Jenkyns granted my wish when I found her wonderful book titled, Ever After.

Ever After is a heartwarming picture book that details the life story of Michael Jackson in a way that instantly draws you into his world. It focuses on Jackson’s humble beginnings and takes the reader on his journey to becoming the biggest star on earth, who touched the lives of millions through the gift of music, his amazing talent and abundant love. Ever After teaches both the young and old to follow their hearts, reach for the stars, never give up, and most importantly, to always help others along the way.

Jenkyns has an exceptional way of capturing Michael’s message and delivers it with pure joy through her gift of storytelling.  Her books will continue to teach future generations about the indelible mark of love and music he left on the world.

The captivating illustrations, by Kathy Garren, immediately caught my granddaughter’s eye and brought Michael’s story to life in a magical way that made her giggle with delight. The whimsical cover invites you to join in on the fun, as a smiling Michael leans up against the Giving Tree, with his youngest son, Bigi, peeking out from behind the other side, and his oldest son, Prince, and daughter, Paris, happily run toward them to take part in the festivities.

My rating for this book is five stars.  Not only is this book great for children, but it is also a great addition to any Michael Jackson book collection because no matter how old you are, Ever After appeals to the child in all of us.
