Usher talks about his Super Bowl and Michael Jackson

Usher will be doing the halftime show at the Super Bowl on February 11. He was recently interviewed by Vogue Magazine where he talked about his plan for the show.

Usher said that his 13-minute show will be a tribute to the R&B world with special guests and at least one costume change.

It will be a celebration of everything he’s done and everywhere he’s been, and he is conscious that it has to sit well with the past iconic performances of Super Bowl shows.

He’s been thinking a lot lately about Michael Jackson, and Prince, and what R&B represents in a country where it wasn’t so long ago that Black performers like him had to walk through the kitchen in order to be on the stage.

“I’m thinking about the fact that I’ve been able to walk through the front door as a result of their sacrifice and ability. So I’m carrying a little bit of that,” he says.

“It’s made me feel joyous. It made me feel like I want to go out there, and I want the world to smile when they look at me. I want them to feel something, and feel my passion, my love, feel like I was the right person to sit in this position, and I was the right person to bring this kind of energy and love and connection to the entire world.”

Usher’ Super Bowl Show might be a nod to the legacies of Michael Jackson and Prince, the two artists he often pays tribute to on his tours and shows, the two artists that inspired his whole career as a performer.

As the show plans are still under wrap, will we see any tribute to the King of Pop? maybe not as 13 minutes to pack all Usher’s hits might be too short for any extra. But for sure we wish Usher the best and hoping his Super Bowl halftime show will enter the best performances’ list led by Michael’s 1993 performance.
