A new company based in San Francisco, launched earlier this year, has been making some noises in the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology world by developing AI based epigenome technologies to read and write genomes.
What is that to do with Michael Jackson? The name of the company is “Moonwalk Biosciences” and as a Michael Jackson fan and not a Neil Armstrong fan, you straight thought about the dance move! And you will be right!
The company’s name is not inspired by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s adventures on the moon but rather by Michael Jackson famous dance move!
“The relation to science is that when you think about the epigenome, we think about changes over time and with disease,” said Alex Aravanis, MD, PhD, CEO and co-founder of Moonwalk Biosciences. “The epigenome of a healthier, younger cell often tells us how we want to modify it. The concept of the dance is that sometimes to move forward, you have to move backward. That’s the analogy to the epigenome—that you actually have to go back in time towards a genome that’s in a healthier and younger state.”
The company also stated this on their website:
“At Moonwalk we believe it’s possible to move cellular states back toward health. So sometimes to go forward, we need to take a few steps back. Just like the moonwalk. Our Mission is to develop efficacious, durable and safe precision epigenetic medicines.”
With such a great name, I am sure they will be very successful and find cure to some diseases… and Heal The World!
