The so famous Mural of Michael Jackson in downtown LA is under a revamp! The so famous O2 announcement painting with a back drop in purple has been painted over in white and a new design has started!
The World Famous Pico Union Graff Lab home to the best legal graffiti in the world was proud to announce the unavailing of the start of the Michael Jackson Mural “MJ2010” set for completion on Michael Jackson’s birthday Sunday, August 29, 2010, by artist Rudy “Rude” Martinez. The mural tribute to the late Michael Jackson measured 30′ by 100′.
The mural painted on the west wall of The Graff Lab headquarters which is a quarter of a mile west of the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles, CA. Artist Rudy Rude was inspired to paint the Michael Jackson mural after his tragic death which took place last year in his home in Holmby Hills, CA. The public debut of the mural “MJ2010” will be accompanied by a meet and greet of artist Rudy Rude Martinez and Rick Guerrero, Founder of the Pico Union Graff Lab alongside young musical entertainers inspired by the music and performances of Michael Jackson. “The world has lost a musical genius but has given birth to a legend,”Rudy Rude Martinez said.
Rudy Rude is no stranger when it comes to painting Hollywood stars. His most recent painting is a portrait of Tori Spelling. The painting was presented to both Tori Spelling and Dean Mc Dermott last month during a visit to the artist studio. So sad to lose the TII mural, which I loved, and was fortunate to see and photograph in person. But at least it is being replaced with a NEW MJ mural, which also looks AWESOME! Balm for the soul after the loss of my favourite mural (the Super Bowl one in Hollywood).

The first one was awesome a mark to make! this is awesome too Michael has the most beautiful eyes that tell just how he feels he has LOVE and he has PAIN just what he saw the world and the children suffer. But Interesting he choice “EYES ” and the DANGEROUS era! Reminds be of the latest leak of SEEING EYES! Both GREAT MASTERS OF GREAT ART♥
The Graff Lab will host the official unveiling of the new Michael Jackson mural tomorrow, Saturday August 1, 2015 at 1:00 pm. The artist’s name is Owen Dippie from New Zealand. Thrill The World Los Angeles / LA Zombies will perform “Thriller” in honor of Michael Jackson and the momentous occasion. An awesome break dancing group will perform also. Everyone is invited; come on over!!

I met the artist, Owen, while he was still working on the mural. He is an incredible artist and a very nice man. He chose Michael’s eyes because he felt that everyone always commented on Michael’s appearance. Michael’s eyes were truly the windows to his soul. That is what he was trying to get across and he did an amazing job.
I went to the unveiling of the mural and I have been back a few times to bring out of towners to see it. Each time I look in to those eyes, I get goosebumps.
I have some pictures but not sure how to post them.
