Royal Neighbors of America Chapter 20028 and the Semper Fidelis Club invite the public to an “At the Movies” event, a free showing of “The Wiz,” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Davenport Public Library, Eastern Avenue Branch, 6000 Eastern Ave., Meeting Room B.
The event includes free hot dogs, popcorn and soda beginning at 5 p.m.
This version of “The Wizard of Oz”, based on the smash Broadway musical, is set against an urban background and features an African-American cast which includes Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lena Horne and Richard Pryor.
“At the Movies” was created to introduce the Quad-Cities to movies written or directed by African-Americans or that feature a predominately African-American cast; the goal being to highlight issues of cultural awareness and diversity, and facilitate togetherness through the arts.
