Joe Jackson, Father of Michael Jackson has passed away.
Joe Jackson, father and early manager of the Jacksons, has died at age 89 on Wednesday (June 27) morning after a battle with cancer,

Back in June 20, 2018, Jermaine Jackson revealed to the Daily mail Joe Jackson was on his death Bed with terminal cancer: ‘He’s very very frail, he doesn’t have long. The family needs to be by his bedside – that’s our only intention in his final days.” but one source close to the camp said: ‘The people around Joe Jackson are the people who have been there for him in his everyday life.
‘They are acting in his interests and no one else’s. The Jackson family doesn’t have the capacity to deal with this on its own, so certain people are taking charge of the situation. It’s delicate… and not as black and white as people are making out. The Jacksons are now in dialogue with the people looking after Joe, and they are being kept informed.’
It is no secret that the Jackson patriarch had suffered a stroke in Brazil summer 2017. On his 87th birthday, he reportedly woke up feeling dizzy with temporary blindness and was admitted to Albert Einstein’s Hospital’s intensive care unit.
In May 13, 2016, Joe Jackson has been hospitalized after a check up with his doctor and suffering from a high fever. and an insider at the time said he was in bad shape.
“The Jackson clan is just beyond upset but they are all coming together to be there for him. No one expected him to last this long. Joe will most likely be dead today. He is in real bad shape.”
However, while Jermaine Jackson confirmed to TMZ photographers over the weekend that Joe was hospitalized, he denied his father is on his deathbed.
“My father is doing much better,” he said. “He’s 87,” Jeremiah said. “Listen, my father’s very strong. He’s up there telling jokes, and he’s very strong. He’s doing fine.
“We’re just making sure to hold on to him as long as we can,” he continued. “That’s what’s most important.”
On May 19, Joe Jackson released the following statement:
“The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated. Please ignore all the stupid false rumors from people who seem to find humor in such topics.”
Joe had also suffered three strokes before that, including one in 1998 and in 2012. Apart from his current illnesses, he also has diabetes.
Michael Jackson estate comments on death of Joe Jackson
“We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family,” John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson, said in a statement to ET. “Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his own imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop superstardom.”
Branca and McClain also said they “developed a warm” relationship with Joe in recent years.
“Mr. Jackson’s contributions to the history of music are enormous,” the statement continues. They were acknowledged by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 in a proclamation naming him as Best Entertainment Manager of All Time; he was inducted into Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2014 and his son Michael acknowledged him with a Joe Jackson Day at Neverland. We had developed a warm relationship with Joe in recent years and will miss him tremendously.”
Joe Jackson was born on July 26, 1928 in Arkansas. After his parents separated, he went to live in California with his father in California at the age of 12. At 18, after his father re-married, he moved with his mother in Indiana where he met Katherine Scruse who he married in 1949 after a failed first marriage.
The pair bought a small house in Gary where Joe worked at Inland Steel as a crane operator and took a second job at American Foundries. While the family grown with 10 children. Joe began working with his sons on a musical group in the early 60s. At first, the group went under The Jackson Brothers. Following the inclusions of Marlon and Michael and Michael’s increased vocal role in the group, their name was changed to the The Jackson Five. After a couple years performing in talent contests and high school functions, Joseph booked them in more and more respectable venues until they landed a spot at the renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York.
On November 21, 1967, The Jackson Five were signed by Jackson to their first professional contract with Gordon Keith, an owner and record producer of Steeltown Records in Gary, Indiana. The group’s first single Big Boy, with Michael as the lead singer, was released on January 30, 1968 on the Steeltown label. Within the year, however, Jackson helped to land his sons an audition for Motown Records in Detroit. The Jackson Five were signed with Motown in March 1969.
Jackson later relocated his family to California and supervised every recording session the group made for Motown. The group began to receive nationwide fame after their first single for Motown, I Want You Back, hit #1, was released on October 7, 1969, followed by their first album, Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5 in December 1969. After the Jackson 5’s first four singles, I Want You Back (The Jackson 5, 1969), ABC (The Jackson 5, 1970), The Love You Save (The Jackson 5, 1970), and I’ll Be There (The Jackson 5, 1970) sold 10 million copies in 10 months, setting a world record for sales, it became clear to Jackson that his dream to make his sons the first African-American teenagers to become internationally known recording stars had come true.
In 1973, wanting to reassure his role of control, Jackson had his family, including youngest son Randy, and daughters Rebbie, La Toya and Janet perform at casinos and resorts in Las Vegas, inspired by the success of fellow family act, The Osmonds.
Joseph had also opened his own record label, Ivory Tower International Records and signed artists under his management in which they toured internationally with The Jackson 5 as opening acts in 1974. In 1975, the Jackson 5, with the exception of Jermaine, left Motown and signed a lucrative deal with Epic Records after Michael Jackson had brokered a deal where they could eventually produce their own songs, leading to Motown retaining the Jackson 5 name, so they renamed themselves The Jacksons in 1976.
In 1978, Joseph’s youngest son, Randy, released his solo single “How Can I Be Sure” under Joseph’s record label. In 1982, Joseph established Janet Jackson’s career at age 16 as a recording artist while managing her. He financed the recording of his daughter’s first demo then, arranged her a recording contract with A&M Recordsand began recording her debut album, overseen by him.
