fiennes

Yes, Oscar nominated very white actor Joseph Fiennes is playing Michael Jackson on British TV. It’s for a one off 30 minute comedy called “Urban Myths.”

This is the NOT TRUE story that became an urban myth, that after the 9-11 attacks Michael, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando drove from New York to L.A. instead of flying home. It is NOT TRUE, this is a comedy.

Stockard Channing plays Taylor, Brian Cox is Brando.

Anyway, here the trailer for it:

  1. I don’t understand why it’s such a big deal. I mean, yeah he’s white but so what? Yo’re gonna pull the racist card for a light-skinned actor playing someone of a similar complexion? He’s not playing Michael during his Motown days — which would be wrong — he’s playing Michael Jackson after his skin complexion changed. Some people say Michael Jackson shouldn’t be portrayed in TV or movies, that they should only use videos and pictures of him because of this very issue. It’s controversial for a white actor to play a black man — even if they have the same skin complexion. If you’re trying to find a black actor to play him to his likeness — at this time of his life — then you’ll be disappointed. Unless he has vitiligo as well, I don’t see how they’ll find one who has a similar skin complexion.

  2. Well, it’s a piece of fluff, short-lived and will sink without trace of its own irrelevance. Yes, it’s a cheap, bitchy little jab at MJ which I’m confident his monumental, over-arching legacy will easily absorb.
