“In addition to the annual support for chimpanzee Bubbles’ care, the Michael Jackson Estate has donated a very generous gift this year of $100,000 to help in our expansion of new chimpanzee habitats. And now, in honor of the Center for Great Apes’ 25th Anniversary, the Jackson Estate has given another gift to help sponsor our celebration event on November 10th in Key Biscayne. We are truly grateful that the Estate honors Michael Jackson’s love for his chimpanzee Bubbles as well as his generosity with charities.”
The Center for Great Apes is celebrating its 25 years of helping orangutans and chimpanzees and providing them with compassionate care for the remainder of their lives.
All great apes are considered critically endangered, and every effort to protect these very intelligent primates is vitally important. The Center has worked hard to help great apes in captivity by not only caring for those who have come to our sanctuary, but also by providing education to the public about their behavior and needs.
Their mission has been to provide permanent sanctuary care for those apes who could never be returned to the wild as well as those who accredited zoos would not accept because of their humanized backgrounds as pets or entertainers. To date, the Center has provided a home for over 60 great apes who have flourished at our sanctuary with good nutrition, excellent veterinary health care, tall habitats with space for normal movement, and most importantly…companionship with their own species.
As they mark this special anniversary, we are celebrating with an event in Miami (the location of our beginning) on November 10, 2018. Please join them and hear more about our past accomplishments as well as our plans for the future.
