Australian Apparel company Cotton On has been told to remove all their Michael Jackson Products from their online shop and on site shops.
Staff at a Cotton On shop in Auckland have refused to sell a Michael Jackson fan a T-shirt, saying they had been told to pull all Michael Jackson’s merchandise from the shop floor because of the “controversy” surrounding the so called documentary Leaving Neverland.
Aucklander Bethany Jollands tried to buy one of the T-shirts yesterday from the Queen Street store, but was told that all of the Jackson stock had been put away in the store room and could not be sold.
“I watched the Leaving Neverland documentary but I don’t believe the allegations,” Jollands said. “I’m still a huge Michael Jackson fan so it seems unfair they wouldn’t sell the tees to me.”
Jollands was later able to buy an MJ T-shirt from the Cotton On website. As of 3.40pm on Wednesday the T-shirts were still available online, but by 4pm the shirts had been removed from the site. The T-shirts have since been pulled from sale in other Cotton On stores around New Zealand.
Cotton On has yet to respond to requests for comment.
“Cotton On has based this decision on one biased documentary and consumers should be able to make up their own minds regarding Michael and what they decide to spend their money on,” says Jollands, who is studying criminology at the University of Auckland.
“Also, perfectly adequate T-shirts are likely going to be disposed of when Cotton On is meant to be a brand that values being responsible.”
It is clear that there is a will to mute and boycott anything Michael Jackson despite that the man was proven innocent & those 2 men are convicted LIARS!
