On Saturday 11th May 2024, Marlon, Tito and Jackie performed at the brand new Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in Gary. They haven’t been there since 2022.
But before their performance, the brothers were celebrated and honored with a new musical arts wing unveiled at Lake Ridge New Tech Middle School.
The new classroom also include a massive portrait paintings of Michael Jackson.
Marlon and Tito went to the school for the unveiling, among VIPs and fans, Evelyn LaHaie was present.
LaHaie is the one who named the boy band “Jackson 5”. Her “naming claim-to-fame” has been acknowledged by Michael in his published autobiography, as well as in numerous interviews father Joe Jackson did over the decades.
“Joe had been calling his performing sons ‘the Jackson Brothers,’ and I just thought it sounded a little too old-fashioned,” LaHaie recalled.
“So when I had them performing for me at a fashion show at the old Big Top department store in Gary, I suggested to Joe that he change their group’s name to ‘the Jackson Five’ because it sounded so much better.”
Also present, Anita Hill, Michael Jackson’s first music teacher at Garnett Elementary School and she said “I taught him “Climb Every Mountain” from “The Sound Of Music” and later he did. That’s what started it. I was his first music teacher. It was unbelievable how one song did all of this.”

It’s really great that the unforgettable magical music experience of the Jackson 5 formerly known as the Jackson brothers is still being honored all over the world and especially in their hometown of Gary Indiana today. I never was really able to attend any live performances of the Jackson 5 concert except one time that my mother took my sisters and I on a trip to attend the operation Rainbow push black exposition show that was being held at the nearby south side amphitheater in Chicago in my young life at the time. We enjoyed a very brief glimpse of the Jackson 5 live performance singing one of their songs called stop the love you save before we was quickly escorted out on the other side of the curtains away from the performance inside the black expo because we didn’t know that we had to have paid tickets to see the Jackson 5 performance and we was so disappointed because it was are only chance to see for the first time the Jackson 5 perform live in person for us, but eventually we was able to listen to the rest of song on the other side of the curtains during the operation Rainbow push black explosion show at the amphitheater on that day. Our venue for listening to the Jackson 5 performances was live on soul train , American band stand and maybe other television shows or listening to their records being played on the black radio station Wvon back in the day …
