Lara Fabian is maybe the most famous Belgium/Canadian singer as she sold over 20 million records worldwide.
On a Morning French TV show called “Bonjour!” on TF1, she opened up and talked about the day she met Michael Jackson.
« Michael Jackson at 42nd Street, the big Christmas show produced by Clive Davis and Lisa Minnelli. That night there were really people, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, people like that and in fact we all made a guard of honour and we were singing along to one of his songs and he was the one who was checking the rehearsals and I had the honor of singing Adagio in front of him and after listening to Adagio he really went up on stage and he hugged me. I rarely tell this story because again there is a billion modesty behind it.
Then one day I thought to myself, why don’t you say it, Lara? Why don’t you say you had this amazing moment in your life? From a photo on a class newspaper, you managed at some point to be on a stage in the United States with a moment like that.
That was one of the most moving moments of my life. »

The concert was actually called “WKTU’s Miracle on 34th Street” which took place in Madison Square Garden in New York on December 19, 2000. Fabian just mixed up the street number but to be honest, it was 24 years ago!
As part of the grand finale, all performers lined up across the stage and the orchestra started The Jacksons’ hit “Shake Your Body [Down To The Ground]”.
Michael came out from the wings to wild applause and cheering. Unfortunately, for the crowd, he didn’t perform, telling the audience that he had laryngitis, but he did wish everyone happy holidays.
Surprise presenter Whitney Houston jumped up and down and hugged Michael.
Before he left the stage, he promised the packed house, “The best is yet to come!”
