In the port town Caldera in Costa Rica, an event took place yesterday to celebrate the International Day of Disability.
Organised by UNIDIS, the event was to raise awareness in the community about disability issues, rights, inclusion in all aspects such as business, politics, social, economics, leisure, sports and culture.
The event was opened by the town Mayor Ms Brunilda González Anjel who said “First we were able to enjoy a beautiful fair with entrepreneurs with disabilities, we have appreciated a socio-cultural activity and a ceremony where people with disabilities have been recognized for different achievements, but the most important thing that has been announced for the second consecutive period we managed to obtain the EDLI (Inclusive Local Development Strategy)”
They also showcased the skill sets of people with disabilities in the community with handmade crafters, stands, workshops, meetings and sports.
And what best to end the event with Michael Jackson who promoted inclusion and acceptance throughout his life and music. The Copiapó Group took the stage and performed all dressed as Michael Jackson.
Not only it shows how Michael Jackson impacts all communities and his message resonates in all corners of the world but also this event show cased the diversity in our community. Well done to the fantastic dancers!
