Last night was the grand re-opening of Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil at Mandalay Bay after 17 months of closure due to the pandemic.
And the show was sold out!
French Olympic trampoline qualifier Greg Pennes, who is working on the show talked about the months of closure: “Training, obviously, has been my main goal, it’s definitely new for us, dealing with health and safety issues, but once you jump in…”
Greg has been with MJ ONE for over 6 years and after so many months out of work, he said “It’s been amazingly great! The body remembers. It’s pretty incredible”.
MJ ONE is one of the only production in Las Vegas to have audience wearing face-covering as well as their performers. Weirdly, it doesn’t take away from the show, in contrary, it ads a sort of Michael-esque feel.
Makeup application for masked performers has been adjusted and the process takes about an hour per performer with the artists moving in and out of the space in shifts to maintain social distancing.
Performing in front of a live audience, Greg said “The first time back, I got goosebumps, it was so much different than performing for empty seats. It was emotional and magical”.
Fans will also recognise a new comer to the MJ ONE family: Dres Reid, who was one of the dancers on “THIS IS IT”.
“Michael Jackson ONE” reopens at Mandalay Bay at 7 p.m. and is set for seven shows every week, at 7 p.m. Thursday through Monday plus 9:30 p.m. shows Friday and Saturday. Cirque officials confirmed this week that ticket sales continue to boom for its Vegas shows.
