Drake just released a new video for his single “First Person Shooter” featuring J. Cole and directed by Gibson Hazard.
In this video, Michael Jackson fans will see a lot of references to the King of Pop. Here is a break down of what we saw:
When Drake says “bigger than the Superbowl”, you can see a very brief image of Drake wearing white socks sliding on a virtual stage of the Superbowl, a clear reference to Michael’s iconic look and also his performance in 1993.
In another section of the video where Drake and Cole competing with a basketball, we could see the reference to “JAM” where Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan compete in a basketball game.
When a wolf appeared and transformed to Drake, that just reminded us of the panther transformation section in “Black or White”.
We can also see a clear representation of “Beat It” when Drake walks alone opposed to a sort of gang with dog masks like in “Beat It” where the gangs gather to fight.
Another clear reference is when Drake walks on the top of a building and the floor light up just like in “Billie Jean” and drake does even do MJ style moves while rapping “Beat It” reference as he raps, “N****s talkin’ ’bout when this gon’ be repeated / What the f*ck, bro? I’m one away from Michael / N***a, beat it, n***a, beat it, what?”
And finally, a drape goes down to reveal that Drake was on the top of a statue of himself with helicopters flying around wearing a black jacket with armband and a sparkly glove. Where did I see that? Oh yeah! The HIStory Teaser and Statue!
You can watch Drake’s video here and let us know what you think.
To note also that the track “First Person Shooter,” featuring J. Cole became his 13th-career No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — tying him with Michael Jackson for the most-ever Hot 100 No. 1s by a male solo artist.
