Isabelle Morizet formerly known as Karen Cheryl was a very popular French singer in the 70s and 80s and sold over 10 million records before she changed career path in the early 90s to become a radio and television presenter.
In the last decades, Karen has been telling the story on how she sang with Michael Jackson at a TV show in Montreal which included stars of the time, Gloria Gaynor, the group Chic, Donna Summer, the Village People and Michael Jackson.
“It was in 1981, in Canada, just before he released his “Thriller” Album. His manager came to see me and told me that Michael wanted to do the finale of the show as a duo. I had to learn the song on the spot and the Village People were doing the choirs.”
During the whole song, she was in his arms, and after the show he came to her dressing room to congratulate her: “He told me he really liked it”.
The story sparked speculations about its authenticity as there are no photos or videos of the moment when she performed the duo with the soon to be King of Pop. But if true, she would have been the only French singer to perform with Michael Jackson. There is also no information on the song from “Off The Wall” they performed and which TV program it was.
However, Michael was at the time in August 1981 on tour with his brothers for the Triumph album and Karen was really popular at the time in the disco world:
Until photos or videos emerge from that moment, we leave you to your own judgment to believe it or not.
