Brazilian journalist, reporter and television host Gloria Maria has passed away yesterday (02/02/2023) at the age of 73 in Rio de Janeiro. She lost her battle to cancer.
In 2019, Gloria was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent a successful immunotherapy treatment. Later, metastasis spread in the brain, and the journalist had to undergo surgery, which was also successful.
“In the middle of last year [2022], Gloria Maria began a new phase of treatment to combat new brain metastases that unfortunately ceased to take effect in recent days, and Gloria died this morning at Copa Star Hospital in Rio’s South Zone,” TV Globo station said.
she became known for special reports and trips to exotic places, especially from 1986, when she joined the team of Fantástico, a program of which she was the presenter between 1998 and 2007. Gloria interviewed celebrities such as Harrison Ford, Nicole Kidman, Leonardo Di Caprio and Madonna.
But we will all remember her from her quick encounter with the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, on the at-the-time-controversial shoot of “They Don’t Care About Us” in the favela of Rio de Janeiro.
Here below some of the reports she did during the Spike Lee’s filming at the time:
Rest in peace Gloria Maria!
