Michael Jackson’s Spaceship used on the HIStory World Tour is for grab at Julien’s auctions this month!
The life size spaceship used by Michael Jackson in the opening of his 1996-97 “HIStory World Tour,” accompanied by its front door, a power supply box, two fans, two control boxes, an electric cord, and a metal transport frame will be auctioned during Julien’s Auctions “Icons” in New York between May 20 and May 22, 2022.
The spaceship is white. Red text reading “MJ-2040” appears underneath the ship’s front entrance, and on either side.
The HIStory tour opened with a simulator-style video segment in which Michael piloted a spaceship through different seminal points in history. At the end of the video, the on-screen spaceship crash landed, and this spaceship emerged from beneath the venue stage, its door opening to reveal Jackson. The bottom portion of the spaceship seen on the video is not part of the on-stage ship, since it was intended to appear to have landed partially “underground” due to the crash. The ship has a circular entrance on its bottom (not visible on stage), presumably for Jackson to enter.
Spaceship: 149 x 5 x 5; Transport frame: 175 x 89 x 63; Door: 86 x 62; Larger fan: 22.5 x 20 x 15.75; Larger control box: 12.25 x 10.25 x 5.25; Power supply box: 22.75 x 17 x 7.25
This is a very important historical artefact as HIStory World Tour was Michael’s last World Tour but also, it was the first time that an artist attempted such technical prowess.
Here a video of Michael’s testing the spaceship during the rehearsal of the tour:
