Japan’s bullet train gets Zombie Thriller on the road

Typically a tranquil two-and-a-half-hour ride on Japan’s famously efficient bullet train, this journey quickly turned into a scene straight out of a zombie apocalypse, with passengers screaming in terror.

The organizers of Saturday’s adrenaline-pumping event, held less than two weeks before Halloween, billed it as the “world’s first haunted house experience aboard a running shinkansen.”

Aboard one chartered car of the bullet train, around 40 thrill-seekers braced themselves for an eerie encounter with the undead as they traveled between Tokyo and Osaka.

To lighten the mood, the horror was interspersed with light-hearted entertainment, including performances by zombie cheerleaders, magicians, and comedians, along with a choreographed dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

Many passengers agreed that the unique, zombie-infested ride alone justified the ticket price, which went up to 50,000 yen ($335).
