Kingvention just announced their third speaker for this year Michael Jackson Fan Convention which will take place in London on October 28 & 29: John Van Nest
John Van Nest has been working in the Music Industry for 45 years. In the early years, John served as the Assistant Engineer for Quincy Jones’ longtime engineer, Bruce Swedien. With Quincy and Bruce, John worked on albums for Michael Jackson, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan and The Brothers Johnson, among others. For the last 40 years, John has owned two recording studios in Hollywood; Image Recording and Resonate Music + Sound, where he has worked with artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Quincy Jones, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Olivia Rodrigo, again among many others. John continues to own Resonate Music + Sound and continues to record and mix for various clients.
As for working with Michael Jackson, John worked as an Assistant Engineer for Michael at the very end of the “Off the Wall” sessions.
Prior to “Thriller”, he worked with Michael creating demo recordings of songs that Michael submitted to Quincy Jones for consideration on “Thriller”.
He later worked as a Recording Engineer on the HIStory album and again as a Recording Engineer on Michael’s short film, “Ghosts”.
