That’s right! Now the Estate is pressuring the California Appellate Court to cut the Quincy Jones Verdict of $9.4 Million!
To recall, Jones was rewarded the £9.4 Million in 2017 for his Royalty damages for his work on “Off the Wall”, “Thriller” and “Bad”.
The Estate’s Attorney Zia Modabber from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is arguing that Jones’s interpretation of the contract for remixed recordings is not valid and conclude Jones was not owed anything for them at all.
It seems we are up for another long court battle again as the case was raised by Jones in 2017.
If the Estate does manage to get it through, this will mean they will be able to rework/remix/repackage the 3 albums without Jones’s approval or say. (not to mention they will save $9.4 Million!)
