We all know Michael Jackson style and essential accessories: The fedora, the glove and… the loafers.
In the 90s, the comfortable city shoes was neglected as many youngsters and fashionistas went all in for the new trend: the sneakers or trainers.
Three decades later, they are now revisiting the shoes that once was called corny or tacky, the loafers are back in fashion.
From the 40s to the 60s, it was one of the most popular shoe ware thanks to James Dean, Buddy Holly, Elvis and Fred Astaire.
The loafers thus became a symbol of elegance, shared by powerful and great artists, managers, and wealthy financiers.
Then came Michael Jackson and through his success with Thriller, the loafers became cool again with millions of fans wearing the accessory.
The 90s became all about the trainers and sneakers with the rise of basketball and other popular sports. The loafers stayed in the closet for many but with COVID and lock-downs, people wants to look classy and comfortable again and the loafers are out of the closets again!
“There is a craze for moccasins/loafers and we were out of stock in September. It’s a shoe that works all year round, with all the looks, functional and versatile,” says Graziella Dubief, shoe purchasing manager at Galeries Lafayette in Paris.
In London, the situation is the same. “There are fewer and fewer sneakers on the catwalk” and “there is clearly a shift from trendy sneakers to more formal shoes” among customers, said Thom Scherdel, a shopper for the Browns store.
And this is no longer a shoe for the men anymore! They also come in different styles, colours and patterns.
Today, you can now be on the top of the fashion trends by wearing your loafers with pretty much any outfits! From the traditional black trousers and white socks (our favourite of course) to short jeans with coloured socks, you can also now wear them with shorts, skirts, dresses, suits and so on.
So let’s get those loafers out of the closet, and wear one of the Michael Jackson fashion accessory on a daily basis! No need to wait for Kingvention to slip your dancing feet in them!
