Nate Giorgio who created the New Album Cover artwork has just released his story on his website. Here a little sneak peek:
In early summer 2015, I started working on the cover art for the new Michael Jackson CD “Off The Wall”. I thought I would share some of my early sketches and rough ideas along with the final sketch that was used. The concept was to create Michael’s iconic pose as if it was drawn in chalk or paint on a brick wall. The drawing had to be original looking, compliment the entire CD package, and not clash with the chalk text that was so well known to fans. Here’s some of the early drawings I was experimenting with…
I’ve finally hit on the style! After hundreds of rough sketches I realize the lines must have an overlapping effect. This gives me the look I’ve been trying to get with a spontaneous chalk drawing that will look like a finished logo of MJ and also compliment the cover text. Clean and simple, these stylish lines will reproduce great over the brick texture…
Here it is, the final drawing! This is the actual final chalk drawing that was used for the cover of Off The Wall. After trying hundreds of sketches, this was the one that was picked by The Estate and SONY. I cleaned the edges and made some minor changes to a few of the smaller lines and scanned a high resolution that was used in reverse white on the cover.
