Thousands of people are expected to flock to the 201st Titchfield Carnival, which takes place at the weekend.
Carnival organiser Kate Scott, from Titchfield Bonfire Boys, is hoping this year’s festival will get the younger generations involved in the annual celebrations.
‘When I was a child there used to be such a brilliant family feel with the carnival and we want to bring that back and to get the youth involved,’ she said.
‘There was a real passion about the festival that gave it a nice family feel. This is what we want to bring back.’
Friday will see the traditional game of ‘rings’ – a custom of 19th century life where participants aim hoops at a wall in the hope they are hooked – take place at the Queen’s Head at 7pm.
Saturday will see people take part in a zombie walk, with everyone, even dogs, encouraged to dress up for the early evening stroll at 5.30pm, which leaves from Horseshoe Green, Bellfield.
Then on Sunday, more than 100 cars will take part in a cavalcade through the village for the third instalment of classic car show from 1pm until 3pm.
Following that, there will be the traditional parade at 3pm, and then an illuminated procession will take place at 6.45pm.
The festival will close on Sunday at 8.30pm with a beacon lighting on Barry’s Meadow.
‘This year will be more compelling,’ said Kate.
‘This festival is about trying to give something back to our community and hopefully next year we will support our village apprentices.’
