When I heard about this book, I thought, wow, I have to have this, but I had no idea how moved I would be. I had to put the book down twice for crying. Michael moved me because his views on life and religion echo many of my own and finding any similarity with such a great person is really unnerving, even though we are both human beings – he doesn’t seem like one. He seems better, was better.
The forward by Elizabeth Taylor is glowing and I get a glimpse into why with the writings in this little book, that lucky woman got to KNOW him, and like much of the world, adore him. He also moved me because he was such a compassionate, real person. He is an example, as far as I am concerned, as to what a REAL MAN should be like, or at least aspire to be like, with his depth of being. I think that’s why most of the adult world didn’t “get” him. They were too busy looking for flaws and putting up barriers to realize greatness when they saw it. I can also relate to his heart-on-my-sleeve personality, something he couldn’t help, but that often got him deeply, uncomprehendingly hurt. RIP Michael Jackson and thank you for these great words. So glad I discovered this little treasure.
Dancing the Dream by Michael Jackson is the most divine, beatific collection of poetry that I have ever read. This book is perfect for reading to children, teens, and adults because the poetry is caring, powerful and perennial. Some of my favorite poems are Planet earth (p.4) and Child Of innocence (p.119)
“Child Of innocence” speaks about the purity and exclusive nature of childhood. It really places emphasis on the significance of enjoying the blissfulness of youth, and the importance of letting children be children. This poem would be thoroughly enjoyed by EYFS (Early Years Foundational Stage) as the words are very easy to understand, and it flows very poetically. It really touches your heart because the passion comes through in the words, and you feel as though the poem is speaking to you personally. It is extremely amiable, and I think this is important when getting children to try and write their own poetry; try and move people in some way or get them to feel something. There are a number of poems to choose from, and each of them are equally positive about life and the world that we live in. I read a lovely review of this book which said, “Every single work is filled with the joy of life and is a true inspiration.”
Another one of my favorite poems in this book is “Planet earth”. “Planet earth” speaks about the universe as a special place that is our home. One would assume that we all like to treat our home with care, and respect, and we should therefore adopt this attitude to the universe. Years and years from now we want humankind to be able to enjoy the beauties that we have enjoyed, here on earth. If we want this to happen then we need to start caring a little bit more about the world.
