In a heartfelt tribute blending pop culture history with animal welfare, fans of Michael Jackson have donated a custom-made statue of Bubbles, the singer’s beloved former pet chimpanzee, to the Center for Great Apes in Florida where Bubbles now resides.
The initiative was led by fan and influencer Ron Pia, who organized the fundraising campaign and coordinated the project. The statue was officially unveiled on April 12, 2025, during a small, intimate ceremony held at the sanctuary.
Plans for the statue were first announced in February 2024, sparking a wave of support from Michael Jackson fans around the world. Donations poured in to honor Bubbles, who has become a symbol of Michael Jackson’s softer, more caring side. The campaign aimed to celebrate Bubbles’ life and his lasting connection to the King of Pop.
The statue depicts Bubbles in a seated position, holding a paintbrush, an homage to one of his favorite pastimes at the sanctuary. As a touching tribute to his past, the canvas he’s “painting” features an illustration of Michael Jackson, linking the two figures in a symbolic, creative moment.
Set on a decorative plinth, the statue is surrounded by photographs chronicling Bubbles’ life, solo shots, images with Michael, and a list of the fan donors whose contributions made the project possible. It has been installed right outside Bubbles’ enclosure, where he continues to live a peaceful and enriched life among other rescued apes.
The artist behind the statue is French sculptor Jean-Baptiste Seckler, well-known in the MJ fan community. Seckler has crafted several Michael Jackson sculptures since 2010 and was even chosen to restore the Michael Jackson wax figure at the famed Musée Grévin in Paris.
