This is the second time this year that the statue of Michael Jackson representing the ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ moment in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is been damaged!
Back in April, the Sunglasses were stolen and weirdly re-appeared few days later (here article).
This time the base of the statue is cracking due to the high number of visitors. Artist Ique Woitschach is explaining that the base of the statue is really fragile as it is only 15cm long and they cannot dig a the ground as it is a building and due to the high number of visit the statue is now suffering of its own fame. Ideally the base of the statue should be underground. Here some of the pictures of the damages:
One of the issue is the fans and visitors hanging themselves to the statue:
If you do visit the statue, please be aware of this as the statue is very heavy and can hurt anyone if it falls.
