Tullahoma resident Cat Murray will be presenting her ninth installment of “HIStory Told by Her” at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at the South Jackson Civic Center.
The event is musical and dance tribute to Michael Jackson that is held annually at Civic Center. Along with a night of entertainment, the show also raises funds for local charities and organizations.
Since its beginning seven years ago, the show has raised funds for Farrar Elementary School’s music program, HorsePlay Inc., South Jackson Civic Center, Motlow Women’s Philanthropic Society, American Cancer Society, and now the Coffee County Anti-Drug Coalition.
Murray said she is grateful that the show has been successful enough to support so many charities.
“There is really no reason or rhyme as to how I pick the organizations we raise funds for,” said Murray. “I just try and to find organizations that are working hard to make a difference and could use a little extra help. For example, the Coffee Country Anti-Drug Coalition is an organization I have been working with for some time. They do a terrific job and really get things done. Being able to help others by doing something I love to do is a real joy.”
The Coffee Country Anti-Drug Coalition is a local nonprofit organization that collaborates with community members to create, support and maintain a safe, healthy and drug-free community.
For the upcoming show, Murray said she and her team of performers have been preparing for the last two months.
“We usually start rehearsals two months before the show date,” she said. “We work hard to make sure the shows are always fun and always different. This year, we will have the Farrar Dance Club perform a 10-minute evolution of dance. It’s going to be a lot of fun for everyone involved and everyone who comes out.”
Tickets are $15. Reserved seating is available for the main floor of the civic center. Open seating will be available the night of the performance for the balcony area. To reserve tickets or for more information, call 461-0034.
