Michael Jackson’s ‘A Place With No Name’ Video Makes Twitter History!

Even posthumously, Michael Jackson is going where no artist has gone before: His new video for Xscape‘s “A Place With No Name” marks the first time a music video has ever debuted exclusively on Twitter. Along with its tweet premiere, “A Place With No Name” was also shown on the Sony video screen in Times Square on Wednesday night at 10 p.m.

Keeping with the desert theme featured in the lyrics of America’s 1972 hit “A Horse With No Name” – which Jackson interpolated for “A Place With No Name” – this new video weaves in rare clips of the King of Pop dancing and chilling on the Salton Sea set of the Herb Ritts-shot video for the 1991 single “In the Closet.” Longtime music video director and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” helmer Samuel Bayer is credited with adding the newly filmed material of a couple playing out the “A Place With No Name” lyrics. Some of the archival Jackson footage comes from the “In the Closet” VHS Single, which featured a behind-the-scenes look at that music video.

According to the Telegraph, Jackson recorded “A Place With No Name” in 1998. The Stargate-produced single is the centerpiece of the recent collection Xscape, which marked a vast improvement over the posthumous disc MichaelAs Rolling Stone reported in June, the Michael Jackson estate is about to rev up the releases as MJ’s musical vaults had enough tracks to fill another handful of compilations. “I’m sure there are a few more great things out there and, hopefully, we’ll all have a chance to hear them,” producer Rodney Jenkins, who worked on Xscape, told Rolling Stone.
