MJ Chart Data Halloween Special, Week of November 13, 2021

I know, I know, I’m 2 weeks late for this and there’s so much to cover, I don’t even know where to start!!!

According to MRC Data Thriller (song) drew 22.1 million streams (up 105%) and sold 8,800 downloads (up 78%) around the world during Billboards tracking week (Oct. 29 through Nov. 4) hitting its peak at #28. That’s a nearly 30% higher streaming than last year, when Thriller gained 17 million streams (up 95%) during Halloween week, hitting its initial high of #51.

Similarly, Rockwell’s (technically Michael’s) “Somebody’s Watching Me” hits #35 on Billboard Global 200 with 18.5 million streams. Unlike Thriller, song has not appeared on any Billboard charts since its first appearance in the 80s.

As for Billboard Hot 100 both Thriller & Somebody’s Watching Me re-enter the charts. Thriller hits its highest peak at #19 since 1984 which means Michael Jackson has now ranked in the top 20 on the Hot 100 in each of the last 7 (I repeat last SEVEN) decades (1960s-2020s) across his entire career!!!

And Somebody’s Watching Me re-appears on the chart at #42 (originally peaking at #2. That’s higher than Thrillers original peak at #5)

Thriller (album) has also jumped 40 spots on Billboard 200 albums chart and it’s occupying  #25 spot, while The Essential re-enters Top 100 & Scream (album) re-enters the chart for the first time since 2017.

Thriller has not been as impressive on UK charts but Thriller did re-enter Top 40 on Official Singles Chart and spent its 57th week on the chart. It was followed by Somebody’s Watching Me peaking at #47 for the first time ever. Due to tracking differences songs have not charted as high as they did in the US but the fact that Number Ones has sold estimated 100,000 units in 2021 is very surprising.
