In our opinion, there is no better start for the advent calendar than a book that comes from Michael himself
Number 1 of our calendar is: Moonwalk.
Released in 1988, five months after the release of the BAD album, it was published by “Doubleday”. It reached #1 on the New York Times bestseller list.
In Moonwalk, Michael gives insights into his life and talks about his childhood, his relationship with his family, successes and rumours. He also goes into detail about the making of some of his songs, reasons for his decisions, tours, etc. It’s the only biography we have of Michael.
It is easy to read in English, but it has also been published in many different languages worldwide.
The book was reissued in October 2009, after Michael’s death, this time with a new foreword by Berry Gordy and an afterword by Shaye Areheart, who at the time helped Michael write the biography.
It is essential for any Michael Jackson fan and I personally refer to this book from time to time as an important source of Michael Jackson facts. You can order it online at all major bookstores, and you can often find it at local libraries as well.

Happy Friday everyone, and Day 2 of our Advent Calendar!
The second book on our advent calendar is “My Family: The Jacksons” written by Katherine Jackson. Published in 1990 by St Martins Press the book can now be found on Amazon or EBay but not in stores because it’s now out of print.

One of the things I loved the most about this book was hearing Katherine’s point of view on the family’s rise to fame after she and Mr. Jackson married, as well as her childhood events too.
You also get to know the whole family better because Michael and his siblings throw entries into each chapter. We get to know what a giving and loving person Mrs. Jackson is and how important faith and family are to her. She was so proud of all of their amazing accomplishments!
One of the most adorable quotes from
Michael was him saying:
“I’ll get married someday when the love bug bites me.”
On a darker but important note, you hear Katherine’s point of view on Latoya’s separation from the family at this time and how it hurt her. She also describes an event when she and Michael came home to Neverland at the conclusion of the BAD tour and Blanca Francia missed him so much, she ran out to hug him when he exited the carriage upon arriving home… any educated MJ fan will know why this is important that she wrote this in 1990…
Learning about the family from Mrs. Jackson’s perspective and about her own childhood struggle with polio and her parents’ divorce helps you understand her and the Jacksons even more and it’s invaluable.
While it’s a bit expensive it’s worth a read and to own and definitely a must have for all MJ super fans!
