If you are a Star Wars fan, you will know that Disneylands will open a new section of their parks called “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge”.
The section will be fully dedicated to Star Wars obviously and a lot of questions have been raised about the old attractions like Star Tours which opened in 1987.
“Our other Star Wars offerings — Star Tours and other things that we have in the park — those are not going away,” Imagineering portfolio creative executive Scott Trowbridge said. “We have no plans right now. We’re not announcing any changes to any of that stuff right now.”
The new 14-acre Galaxy’s Edge will open on May 31 at Disneyland.
Star Tours debuted at Disneyland in 1987 long before Disney acquired Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise. The addition of the Star Wars ride came at a time in the 1980s and ’90s when Disney was introducing attractions based on non-Disney intellectual properties like the Indiana Jones Adventure, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin and Michael Jackson’s “Captain EO.”
Will Captain EO return to the new themed Star Wars section of Disneyland? We can only hope but with the Estate suing Walt Disney Company regarding the ABC TV network’s “The Last Days of Michael Jackson” documentary over copyright infringement, it seems our favorite Captain will not be back any time soon to Disney parks!
We can however still dream that “Captain EO” could be part of it especially since Disney was in the process to include the character to their Disney Infinity!
Nothing is lost yet! We can change the world!
