If you remember our News feed back in December 2014 saying that Michael Jackson’s estate takes issue with a popcorn retailer at the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
The estate of Michael Jackson has never registered his “King of Pop” honorific as a federal trademark, but they filed an opposition this week to say that nobody else can, either.
In 2012, GourmetGiftBaskets.com Inc. launched KingOfPOP.com, an online gourmet popcorn store selling… POPcorn
Well it seems they are now going to court about it!
Nobody calls popcorn “pop” … is the basis of a lawsuit the Michael Jackson estate has filed against a website using MJ’s name to hawk popcorn.
The estate claims the site tried to defend its use of the popular MJ moniker by saying the word “pop” is a “nickname for popcorn products.” The estate says that’s BS because “pop” is only a nickname for soda … in certain parts of the country.
Team MJ is suing to get the site shut down, plus damages.
